Lately, I’ve become very interested in Attraction Marketing and playing the “Long Game”…

Once you’ve decided who your “ideal client” is, where they are and what they like, it’s time to go to work.

You have a choice though…How should you make your approach?

I asked a question of the audience during a talk I gave last night… “If you could only create one post per month on Social Media what would you say?”

It was interesting the responses I got…

“A list of my services”

“Our specials for the month”

“A photo of my business card”

Nope, Nope, and Nope…

Let’s contrast that with the great story of a Commercial Plumbing Contractor Chicago. His ideal clients are big, construction companies that while building large buildings call him in to do the plumbing work. He knows who the decision makers are in those companies and he knows what they like. Luckily for him it coincides with what he likes…

Chicago Cubs Baseball…

He started to use his business twitter account (and other social media accounts) to talk about the Cubs. He became an authority and provided a ton of value and insight into things like the players, stats and the history of the club.

He built up a huge following and was very interactive with his audience. None of his tweets said a word about plumbing or construction but do you know what every single post had on it…?

”John Smith, ABC Commercial Plumbing”

He played the long game and he played it well. Those replies and direct messages eventually changed from “I agree, we’re weak in center field” to “Hey John, I see you’re a plumbing contractor, why don’t you come bid our next project.

Well played, John, well played indeed…
