The main principle of “attraction marketing” is to create a situation where people are naturally drawn to you…right?
To get people to be naturally drawn to you, you have to become known.
The two ways to become “known” are:
1.Spend tons of money on advertising
2. Focus on a small group (a “niche”)
The easiest way to get the right people to come to you without spending a fortune then, is to niche, right?
If you do “everything” and sell to “everyone” then you’ll never become an expert. Once you select a niche within your industry you can then begin to specialize.
Now we’ve decided that “niching” is a good idea, my recommendation would be select a niche that serves either a higher-end clientele or commercial clients.
If I was a window installer, I would have my niche be very high-end new construction homes. If I was an A/C guy I would work commercially as opposed to residentially. The jobs are larger and pay more.
So why don’t all salespeople, business owners and entrepreneurs niche?
In my opinion it’s a lack of confidence. They’re scared to position themselves as an expert in a particular area for fear of being “found out”. They’re worried a true expert will call them out or a knowledgeable customer will ask them a question they can’t answer.
The only way around this is to put in the work and BECOME an expert in your niche. Once you become known as an expert, people will seek you out and you can charge more and be very selective about the jobs you take on…
Don’t be scared…once you get going, what seemed hard today will seem easy tomorrow…
