Marketing 101…if the stuff you put out into the world about your business doesn’t make people stop what they’re doing and yell to their spouse, “Oh my goodness, honey look at this!”, then your stuff isn’t very good.
I get it, it’s not easy to come up with mind-blowing stuff 24/7 but you know you could be trying harder… You’re busy, I get it but you’re spending too much time working IN the business instead of ON the business.
A great example here locally in Lake Charles of a business that rolls out a little “WOW” once a year is the “Derm After Dark” event hosted by Dermalogix in November. It’s billed as a “Pre-Black Friday” sale and they offer buy-one-get-one-free gift certificates just in time for Christmas. It’s an AWESOME deal and they very wisely put a limit on it. Buying a $100 gift certificate and getting another $100 FREE is the kind of thing that stops traffic… this is where you need to be with your marketing.
Another really cool example is Pizza Artista’s “Free Pizza For A Year” promotions. It doesn’t cost them an arm and a leg (it’s actually just twelve $15 gift cards) but it gets people fired up!
Another client of ours (a Mattress Store) uses really funny dog photos in all their Ads. Nothing to do with Mattresses but it gets people to stop and “LOL”…
If what you’re doing with you marketing online doesn’t make people stop immediately and share it out and tag a hundred people in the comments, then you might as well not bother…
Sometimes a business is just super cool by nature (think Rikenjaks here locally) but if yours isn’t, don’t despair. Pet Salons aren’t very exciting but could you offer a $5 discount if the owner allows you to take a photo of their dog in a pair of sunglasses? You’ve just created some awesome content.
Block out 30 mins in your calendar EVERY Monday morning and thank me later…
