I’m not a fan of giving away profits but I do love to give things away. I make a game out of seeing what I can give our clients in the form of added value that doesn’t cost me anything but time.
If a client buys a billboard spot, I’ll have one of our designers create a “mock up” of their ad on that particular billboard. I’ll make sure it’s a beautiful image with a sunset or clear blue sky and send it to them to use on social media or to frame and put in their office. It’s such a small thing but you wouldn’t believe the feedback we get.
I have a realtor friend that is also an artist. Whenever she assists a buyer in purchasing a home she’ll take a photo of the home and use it to paint a watercolor. She’ll then present this as a closing gift to the buyers. Talk about added value. It’s so thoughtful and personalized…
Another realtor I know will do yard work for the people he lists homes for. He doesn’t tell them that he’s going to do it, he just does. In particular, he commented to me one day that the one thing that a seller typically never does is power wash their driveway. It makes a great first impression to a buyer and adds tons of curb appeal. He’ll take his own power washer to the property and typically spends 3-4 hours power washing the driveway and front walk ways. Imagine how the sellers view him after he does that. He’s not a brand-new agent either, he’s just always done that…
The story I use most of all is of a Financial Advisor I know. Anytime a high net worth client comes to see him, he’ll have his receptionist take their car keys before the meeting. She’ll then run down to the parking garage and during the 45 min meeting a detail crew cleans the car inside and out.
Can you imagine the conversations these clients have about him when their back at work or eating at the country club that night… “You wouldn’t believe what my Financial Guy does for me during our meetings…” It’s got nothing to do with Finance but it gets him more business than you would believe…
These stories should tell you why you need to give more value than you’re paid for…
I’d love to hear your stories of extreme value. Please like, comment and share this article, it’s always appreciated!
